A Brown Thornbill enjoying a bath in a garden in inner Melbourne. Birds bring beauty, interest and natural pest control to a garden. Water is a magnet for birds and you only need a terracotta saucer on an old tree stump. This one is 2m up to keep birds safe and the water is changed every day. The surrounding area has a host of multi-level native plantings and no pesticides have been used for 20 years. Brown Thornbills visit every day of the year. (We do use a water pistol on aggressive Noisy Miners). See our post about presentations by Dr Annie Naimo from Birdlife Australia. See MoreSee Less
